NRNP 6568 Week 3 Assignment 1: Study plan
NRNP 6568 Week 3 Assignment 1: Study plan
The practice experience has been an important part of my professional and personal growth. I was exposed to different conditions and management approaches that will inform my future practice. I learned from my preceptor and other healthcare providers on the assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of care plans. The practice experience will help me pass my upcoming certification examinations in my specialty. The practice exam results aligned with my expectations. I performed according to my expected targets. Therefore, this paper reflects on the practice exam results, identifies content-area strengths and opportunities for improvement, study plan, and resources that I will utilize to accomplish my goals and tasks.

Practice Exam Results
As noted above, I passed my practice exam. I performed according to my targets. My performance in all the assessment areas was above average. I performed better than 67% of my peers. The exam results reflected my adequate preparation and understanding of the different concepts and practice skills in my future role. It also reflected the dedication I put into my preparation and the adequacy of the resources that were utilized in the process. I am satisfied with the results. However, I believe that I can do better in the certification examinations.
Strengths
The practice test results helped me identify my strengths. Firstly, I discovered that I am competent in interpreting different diagnostic and laboratory results. I can use the results to determine the prioritized needs of my clients and appropriate care plans. I also learned from the results that I am competent in developing diagnoses and differential diagnoses. My adept knowledge of the pathophysiology of different conditions helped me rule out potential conditions in different case studies. I can use subjective and objective data to come up with primary and differential diagnoses that should be considered for my clients.
I also learned from the practice exam results that I have adequate knowledge and skills in health promotion and disease prevention. I can provide patients with health education to minimize and prevent their risk of health problems. I scored excellently in questions that required the implementation of interventions that modify the lifestyles and behaviors of my clients. I also discovered from the practice results that I could practice within my scope of practice. I have an adequate understanding of my expected roles and responsibilities as an advanced practice nurse. I can provide high-quality, safe, and efficient care to patients requiring services within my scope of practice (Grace, 2022). I can also determine practice areas that are beyond my scope of practice and refer patients for the specialized care they need.
Opportunities for Improvement
I identified opportunities for improvement based on my performance in the practice test. Firstly, I discovered from the test results that I need to improve my knowledge and skills on issues related to cancer. I have a basic understanding of the assessment and treatment of the different types of cancers. I need to put more focus on strengthening my understanding of cancer to improve my scores in the certification examinations. I also learned from my scores that I need to develop an adequate understanding of the medications used for different conditions and populations. Children, adults, and elderly patients have unique physiological functioning, which affects drug options for their health problems. For example, elderly patients have reduced renal clearance, metabolism, and absorption of drugs. This implies that they have a high risk of developing adverse drug reactions as compared to adult patients (Coetzee & Absalom, 2023; Polaka et al., 2022). Therefore, I need to study hard the effect of different patient factors on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and their impact on treatment decisions.
I also discovered from the practice exam results that I need to improve my knowledge of the selection of appropriate screening tools for different conditions. Screening tools help healthcare providers develop accurate diagnoses and treatment plans for their patients. The results of the screening also help to determine the effectiveness of different treatments adopted to manage conditions (Grace, 2022). My scores on the selection of screening tools were unsatisfactory. I need to devote more time to this area to improve my chances of passing my certification examinations.
Study Plan
I intend to spend the remaining weeks on focused study and preparation for my certification exams. I will focus on all the areas irrespective of my strengths. I will dedicate most time to my areas of weaknesses within the first few weeks of study and then shift to balanced time for my areas of strengths and weaknesses. The following are the three goals that I should achieve before the certification examination date.
By the end of the next four weeks, I should have mastered the pathophysiology of different conditions that relate to my practice and assessed in the certification exam. I will study all the conditions that are examinable in the exam and aim to understand their pathophysiology, as it informs management plans.
By the end of the next four weeks, I should have mastered the pharmacological treatments of all the conditions that relate to my practice and assessed in the certification exam. I will read different medications prescribed for conditions that will be assessed in the exam. I will also do multiple assessment tests to ensure I understand the concepts I learn when achieving this goal.
By the end of the next four weeks, I should be competent in determining appropriate screening tools, laboratory tests, and diagnostic investigations for all the conditions that relate to my practice and are assessed in the certification exam. I will read about the different screening tools and interpretation of their findings for my practice and certification examinations. I will also do multiple practice tests on screening for different conditions.
The following is a timetable that I would use to guide my preparation for the certification examinations.
Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4
Monday Neurological conditions Musculoskeletal conditions Neurological and cardiovascular conditions Musculoskeletal conditions
Tuesday ENT conditions Hematological conditions ENT and gastrointestinal conditions Cardiovascular and ENT conditions
Wednesday Cardiovascular conditions Obstetrics and gynecological conditions Gastrointestinal and integumentary conditions Gastrointestinal and genitourinary conditions
Thursday Gastrointestinal conditions Genitourinary conditions Genitourinary and hematological conditions Integumentary and professionalism in advanced nursing practice
Friday Integumentary conditions Professionalism in advanced practice nursing Obstetrics and gynecological conditions Neurological conditions
I will measure my progress based on my scores in multiple assessment tests that I will do. I will do system-specific assessment tests and general tests to determine my understanding and overall progress in preparing for the certification exams. I will devote at least four hours daily to preparing for the exams and rest over the weekends.
Resources
I will use several resources to accomplish my goals and tasks. I will participate in the weekly discussion groups with my classmates to strengthen my understanding. I will also review the course materials such as textbooks to gain a better understanding of the test assessment areas. I will also develop mnemonics to increase my understanding. I will launch 150 assessment tests daily to assess my understanding. I will also use online sources of learning such as YouTube to improve my understanding of the different course concepts.
Conclusion
Overall, my practice test results provided me with insights into my strengths and opportunities for improvement. I will allocate more time to my areas of weakness to ensure that I pass the certification examinations. I will prepare for the exams as per the developed timetable. I will utilize several resource types to accomplish my tasks and goals.
