Human growth and development Assignment 3

Human growth and development: Select one of the following experiential activities to observe and write about for unit 3. Remember that the paper must be between two and three pages in length (typed double spaced) and must cover the topic thoroughly to receive the maximum 100 points.

ONLY PICK ONE OF THE FOLLOWING 4 TOPICS PLEASE!

Gross Motor Skills. Locate three children of approximately three years of age, four years of age, and five years of age. Have them perform the following tasks. Stand on one foot. Hop in place on one foot. Hop forward on one foot. Throw a ball to someone five feet away. Throw a ball to someone 10 feet away. Describe the differences in success of the three children on these tasks.

Fine Motor Skills. Locate two children, one approximately two to three years of age and one five to six years of age. Provide the children with paint and paper. Describe the differences in the way the children paint. Describe the differences in the final product.

Pre-operational Thought. Present a child between five to six years of age with the conservation tasks in Figure 9.1, page 239. Indicate and discuss the child’s responses.

Varieties of Play. Observe a group of children at least five to six year of age at play for 30 minutes. Number each child and identify as male or female. Record the activities of each child, indicate the length of the activity, and categorize it as either rough-and-tumble play or socio-dramatic play. Discuss whether any differences existed between the boys and the girls in their play activities

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument. Get homework help here
