The program helped me to achieve my policy competencies. Health Delivery System
The program also helped me to achieve health delivery system competencies. The program increased my competencies in organizational management. I can now utilize different management approaches to improve systems and processes of healthcare delivery. The program increased my knowledge and skills in negotiation, collaboration, conflict resolution, and problem-solving. I can use the knowledge and skills to implement change initiatives that minimize and prevent risks to patients and healthcare providers. I also developed competencies in evaluating the impacts of healthcare delivery systems on patient outcomes (nonpf.org, n.d.). I can collect, analyze, and interpret data and use the findings to determine system impacts on health outcomes and recommend the needed changes.
Ethics
The program helped me to achieve ethics competencies. The program exposed me to ethical issues in nursing practice and the use of ethical principles in solving them. It also increased my understanding of approaches to evaluating the ethical decisions of the decisions I make in my practice. I make decisions by considering ethical and legal issues that affect my practice. I can competently apply knowledge of pathophysiology, physiology, and pharmacology to my treatment decisions. The knowledge and skills gained from the program have enabled me to provide patient-centered, culturally appropriate, and evidence-based care that improves outcomes. I can also coordinate care involving different healthcare providers and empower other healthcare providers through training, education, and mentorship.
Engaging in Social Change in My Community
I intend to engage in social change in my community. One of the strategies that I will use to promote social change in my community is health education. I will implement health education programs that raise awareness among community members about health risks, prevention, and available healthcare services. I will educate my community about the importance of screening, early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of health problems (Edmonds et al., 2020). Health education will increase the uptake of healthcare services and promote lifestyle and behavioral change among the community members.
The second strategy I will adopt to promote social change in my community is acting as their advocate. I will ensure that the community’s right to access high-quality, safe, and efficient care is protected. I will also ensure the adopted policy decisions are prioritized and align with their needs. I will also link community members with resources that will help them achieve their health needs (Edmonds et al., 2020; Florell, 2021). Community resources such as social support groups are crucial in ensuring the optimum health and well-being of those with chronic conditions.
Advocacy Activities in Maryland
Nurse practitioner organizations in Maryland are involved in legislative and advocacy activities. For example, the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland (NPAM) has been actively involved in the adoption of policies that address nurse practitioners’ needs.
