Theoretical Framework and Model for Change
Change is an important element in nursing practice and healthcare. Nurses and other healthcare providers implement change in their practice to improve outcomes. Change models and frameworks guide the implementation of change. The models and frameworks guide the strategies used for change and measuring their effectiveness. The two models that are best for my evidence-based practice proposal are Lewin theory of change and transtheoretical model of change.
Lewin developed the three-step model that can be used to initiate and predict change in an organization. The model is appropriate for the evidence-based practice proposal because it provides realistic strategies to initiate and sustain change in an organization. According to Lewin, people embrace change in a stepwise manner. The steps of change include unfreezing, change, and refreeze. The adopters of the proposed evidence-based intervention are not ready for change in unfreeze stage, as they are unaware. Interventions such as creating awareness and educating the adopters are appropriate to create a sense of urgency in this phase. The adopters are aware and ready to implement change in change step. They are willing not to relapse to their earlier behaviors in the refreeze stage (Rad & Rad, 2021). This model will drive sustainable change, hence, its appropriateness for the proposal.
The transtheoretical model is the other model that may be adopted to guide my proposed project. The model also provides stepwise approaches to change implementation. According to the model, change occurs in steps that include precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance. The model has demonstrated its effectiveness in problems such as uptake of screening services, substance abuse, and weight-related issues (Raihan & Cogburn, 2023). Despite its effectiveness, I am likely to utilize Lewin model of change due to its simplicity, comprehensiveness, and ease of use when implementing organizational change.
