Evidence-based practice has revolutionized the current healthcare system, with improved safety and quality of care provided. For effective implementation of the EBP intervention, nurse leaders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the change management process, which involves coming up with the project timeline, to ensure that every activity is completed with the planned timing (LoBiondo-Wood et al., 2018). Consequently, establishing project goals is a crucial project management principle that increases the likelihood of completing the project in the budgeted time. Some goals can be adjusted while others need to be met in time for the project to continue. For instance, some of the due dates to the EBP can be rescheduled by a few hours to days to accommodate the needs of the stakeholder. The proposed project timeline is depicted graphically in this discussion.

Table 1: Project Timeline

Stage Task Timeline in Weeks
1 Project approval 2 weeks Coming up with the project goals, organizing stakeholders, and analyzing the potential barriers/ risks. Approval form presented and signed during this time.
2 Education development 3 weeks Informing stakeholders about the EBP. Planning, allocating duties, and development of the individual roles.
3 Stakeholder education 3 weeks Coming up with training programs and executing stakeholder education on appropriate implementation of the EBP.
4 Implementation date 4 weeks Executing every step of the implementation process for incorporation of the new intervention into clinical practice.
5 Assessment of initial outcomes/implementation 1 week Evaluating the project outcome and coming up with the necessary changes to promote optimum benefit from the new intervention.
6 Reassessment of outcomes 1 week Assessing the challenges experienced, and determining whether the project goals were achieved, or a new intervention needs to be implemented.

Stage 1: Project Approval

At this point, the nurse leader comes up with a team of stakeholders such as nursing staff, physicians, directors, and administrators among others who will be involved in the development and implementation of the EBP project (Camargo et al., 2018). The EBP team, led by the nurse manager, then develops the project concept and goals. A proposal form is forwarded to the review board of the healthcare organization for approval. Once the project has been approved, the stakeholders can then proceed to the second step.

Stage 2: Education development

The second step involves educating stakeholders who are directly and indirectly involved with the proposed change. This is mainly to promote the organizational culture of readiness (LoBiondo-Wood et al., 2018). All stakeholders will be educated on the need for change, and why the proposed intervention is considered the best for solving the problem.

Stage 3: Stakeholder education

At this point, the EBP team has ensured that all stakeholders are aware of the proposed change. All the stakeholders will then be assigned a specific role and trained accordingly on how to implement the proposed change (Mathieson et al., 2019).

Stage 4: Implementation

Once the stakeholders have completed their training, they will be required to execute their roles in the implementation of the EBP (Camargo et al., 2018). The nurse leader will ensure that every task is handled at the right time for the effective completion of the implementation process.

Stages 5 & 6: Assessment of initial outcomes/implementation and Reassessment of outcomes

Once the project has been successfully implemented, the EBP team will initiate the evaluation process, where the achievements of the initial project outcomes will be assessed. This will be done by collecting feedback from directly involved stakeholders such as the nurses and patients (LoBiondo-Wood et al., 2018). Based on the outcome of the evaluation process, necessary changes will be made to ensure that the optimum benefits of the EBP have been attained.
