Assignment: Obesity among low-income

Recruiting and Sampling:Choose from “ONE” of the following scenarios that describe a health care or public health issue or problem:

Scenario A

The rise in obesity among low-income Latino preschoolers is a public health concern. The childcare environment is considered an influential arena in the early development of lifestyle habits that can potentially lead to childhood obesity. There is a need to explore the role and potential corrective influence of family childcare providers.

Scenario B

Weight loss is a much-desired goal, even in non-morbid patients with Type 2 Diabetes; however, non-morbid patients frequently encounter great difficulty in meeting the therapeutic weight loss goal set by their physicians. Bariatric surgery appears to be a viable alternative to medication for these patients. Before going to the expense of conducting a randomized clinical trial, it is important to investigate the opinion and preferences of non-morbid Type 2 Diabetes patients regarding the value of, and concerns about, bariatric surgery.

Scenario C

The management of diabetes is a central focus in some Native American tribal regions of the U.S. Continuous quality improvement is an important aspect of improving service delivery rates and clinical outcome measures. Because one of the well-recognized factors involved in a well-designed health care delivery system is the sense of ownership (over the diabetes management process), it is important to explore how this sense is understood and expressed in this population.

In your post to this discussion, identify the scenario you have chosen and use the attached reading and resource material to address the following:

Describe the approach you would take for recruiting and sampling patients for this study.

Describe which technique you would use to collect data (such as focus group, interview, et cetera), and explain why you selected it.

Describe the issues of credibility and trustworthiness you should consider for your particular scenario, and describe how you might resolve potential problems.

Note:

In your initial post, include at least t woAPA-formatted citation (in-text, as well as full reference). The citation should be from the attached materials you have read during this unit. It may be from course textbooks, assigned readings, or an outside source. Your initial post must be a minimum of 300 words in length.

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument
