The presence of predisposing mental disorders was also determined. Before initiating the assessment, a rapport with the patient was established to foster patient comfort.
Assessing for self-harm and suicidal risk indicators, especially among young individuals presents certain challenges. This includes unwillingness to disclose helpful information, communication barriers, privacy and confidentiality concerns due to parental involvement, and the occurrence of self-harm in unintentional complex situations such as during dissociative episodes (Bellairs-Walsh et al., 2021).
