Definition/Explanation of the selected nursing concept:
The selected concept for this project is patient satisfaction. Patient satisfaction has been defined as the opinion of the patient of the care they receive from the healthcare provider. It is also defined as the expression of judgment of the patient towards the quality of care(Ng &Luk, 2019). Patient satisfaction is also the congruence between expectations of the patients of ideal nursing care and perception of the real care that they receive.

Three defining attributes:
One of the defining attributes of patient satisfaction is provider attitude. Patients report high satisfaction with the care if the provider demonstrates positive attitude such as being courteous, kind, and friendly. The other attribute is efficacy. Patients are likely to be satisfied with the care given if they perceive their care to be efficacious. This includes spending less time seeking the care they need and few costs or resources. The last attribute is accessibility. Patient satisfaction increases with ready availability of healthcare providers, equipment, and health institutions alongside equitable access to healthcare services(Abu-Rumman et al., 2021).
1 Antecedent and 1 Consequence of the concept:
One antecedent associated with the concept of patient satisfaction is patient demographics. Patient satisfaction differs based on factors such as age, gender, and emotion among others. Studies have shown that elderly patients have a high rate of satisfaction with care as compared to younger patients. Individual factors such as personality also influence patient satisfaction level. Personality traits such as being an optimist and open increase the likelihood of being satisfied easily with the care given.
One consequence of patient satisfaction is improved utilization of healthcare system. Satisfied patients are highly likely to seek healthcare services from the same institution in the future. This increases the utilization of healthcare services and healthcare systems by the population(Ng &Luk, 2019). Health outcomes improve because of enhanced treatment adherence, compliance, and utilization of health promotion and disease prevention services.
Model Case:
A model case for this concept is a 50-year-old patient that comes to the outpatient department for diabetes screening. A nurse receives the patient, establishes rapport, and makes the patient feel welcomed before initiating the screening process. The nurse also educates the patient about diabetes, assesses his understanding of the disease, risk factors, and modifiable behaviors and lifestyle. The nurse also links the patient to the available resources he can utilize to improve his health outcomes. The nurse also informs him about his subsequent screenings. By the end of the encounter, the patient leaves the facility satisfied because of the positive attitude by the nurse, efficiency, patient-centeredness, and accessibility of care services.
Theoretical Applications of the Concept:
Nurses apply the concept of patient satisfaction in their practice. They adopt care interventions that aim at improving the satisfaction level of their patients with the care that they receive(Afrashtehfar et al., 2020; Karaca&Durna, 2019). Some of the interventions that nurses use to increase patient satisfaction include patient-centeredness, shared decision-making, open communication, and protecting their rights and needs in the care process.
Reflection:
The concept of patient satisfaction is important in nursing practice. Nurses employ interventions that improve patient satisfaction with care in their practice. Patient satisfaction influences other outcomes such as treatment adherence, compliance, and utilization of care services. Patient satisfaction also empowers patients to be proactively involved in meeting their health needs(Manzoor et al., 2019). Therefore, nurses should constantly explore strategies that increase patient satisfaction in their practice.
