Family members offer mental strength and emotional boosts that enhance health outcomes (Meid et al., 2020). Hannah said that her family was with her during her stay in the hospital as they would visit her and chat with her for a while during visitation hours. The family visited her all through the days she was hospitalized to be there and inquired about anything from the health care professionals.

The involvement of family members in the patient treatment and planning process is important as it allows providers to make decisions and offer better care (Kerstens et al., 2021). In this case, Hannah’s family was involved in the treatment as her husband and daughter consulted with professionals concerning some of the interventions that they proposed. The husband provided her medical history, which assisted the physicians in considering appropriate treatment interventions. Hannah said that involving her family in the treatment plan, demonstrated the increasing approach of patient-centered care. The involvement of families in treatment plans is essential to enhance decision-making among providers and integrate culturally competent care.
