As a Medical Assistant, you will work with a variety of patients whom will all require a specific standard of care. In order to provide the level of service that every patient deserves, the Medical Assistants must strive to provide support and care that meets the individual needs that their patients bring. Some of the diverse needs that you may come across include the following: age, mental disability, physical disability, religious views, cultural views, and socioeconomic environmental differences that may be unlike your own.

Your final project/presentation is due in Module 9.

Requirements

· Select a topic in which you would like to research regarding one area of diversity that pertains to the categories above. You need to obtain faculty approval for your chosen topic.

· Use the library’s databases to find information on how to appropriately provide care for all of those who fall within your chosen area. http://guides.rasmussen.edu/healthsciences/MA-courseprojects

· Create a power point or Prezi presentation, in which you will present to the class, in regards to your chosen topic.

· Your power point should include the following:

· The diverse needs of the selected patient population.

· Specific barriers that you may encounter with this selected population.

· How to successfully overcome the barriers you selected.

· Any other pertinent information regarding this population and how to provide the best quality of care.

· Presentation length: minimum 8 minutes.

· Title page should be included.

· Reference page should be included.

· All information should be relevant and factual (not opinionated).

· Spelling, grammar, and punctuation are important.

· For specific grading criteria, please refer to the assignment rubric below

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
