Community Health Improvement Program
Cigarette smoking is a common unhealthy behavior in my community that needs sustainable cessation interventions. Smoking increases the risk of premature mortality from significant predisposition to cardiovascular diseases, respiratory disorders, and cancer (Park et al., 2021). Nicotine dependence makes quitting smoking difficult with associated frequent relapses. To solve this pertinent issue, the implementation of a smoking cessation program may be necessary.
This program will adopt specific smoking cessation interventions. These include smoking cessation-related health education, psychotherapy, group therapy, counseling, and the use of medications such as varenicline and nicotine replacement therapy (Park et al., 2018). The health education and promotion will advocate for appropriate abstinence behavior among identified smokers. The program will run for one month with the participants being followed up for six months. The use of technology, such as mobile phones during follow-ups can enhance the cost-effectiveness of self-reporting of behavior change (Patrick et al., 2018). The effectiveness of the interventions will be evaluated at the end of the program.
Certain measures are used during the implementation of evidence-based changes based on community health improvement programs. These include acceptability, adoption, appropriateness, compliance/fidelity, feasibility, penetration, sustainability, and costs (Allen et al., 2020). These measures can adequately predict the influence of implementation barriers and facilitators. This will guide the implementation process so that the desired beneficial quality outcomes are achieved.
