NURS 8302 Week 10 Discussion Post
Transformational leadership is a process that aims at changing and transforming individuals and one that integrates charismatic and visionary leadership. Transformational leadership for change emphasizes intrinsic motivation and the development of individuals. It asserts that change should be tailored to the needs of current employees who desire inspiration and empowerment to succeed in moments of uncertainty (Pearson, 2020). Transformational leadership is similar to quality improvement (QI), a systematic approach guided by data to improve the quality and safety of service delivery (Backhouse & Ogunlayi, 2020). QI is a principle-based strategy to change, which provides greater clarity about the contribution an intervention offers to staff and patients and the benefits of employing it in addition to other change approaches.
In my healthcare organization, my unit manager is a transformational leader who influences other nurses to achieve more than their usual expectations. The unit manager engages with the nurses in the unit and establishes a connection that increases the level of motivation and morality in the unit. Furthermore, the manager pays attention to the needs and motives of nurses and strives to help them reach their full potential.
The Agile project management approach can be used to implement a QI project in my organization to incorporate peer support in trauma-informed care (TIC) to accelerate recovery. The project will be divided into short phases of work with frequent testing, reassessment, and adaptation throughout. The short-term milestone for this project will be the successful training of peer support workers. The long-term milestone will be the identification of patients who have undergone traumatic experiences and the incorporation of them into peer support sessions (Shalaby & Agyapong, 2020). The transformational leader can focus on the values, emotions, ethics, standards, and long-term goals of the project and inspire the employees to work towards achieving the project’s vision and goals.
