River Parish Community College’s mission statement declares that the school “exist[s] to provide accessible, affordable, quality higher education and lifelong learning opportunities that empower individuals to enhance their lives, enrich their communities and strengthen the regional economy.” In contrast, Louisiana State University’s mission statement proclaims that the institution is “dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through research and teaching” and commits to providing “a supportive environment for inquiry, creativity and intellectual growth.”(Blessinger & Comeaux, 2020) There are several key ways in which these two mission statements differ. For one, River Parish Community College focuses on providing accessible and affordable education, while Louisiana State University stresses research and teaching. Additionally, River Parish emphasizes preparing individuals to be productive citizens in their communities, while LSU only mentions advancement in knowledge acquisition through extensive research and teaching.
Both River Parish Community College and Louisiana State University have as their mission to provide quality education. River Parish Community College also has the additional missions of providing access to higher education and meeting the needs of the community. This is reflected in keywords such as “quality,” “access,” and “community.” Louisiana State University also mentions preparing students for life after college, which is another key difference. The keywords in Louisiana State University’s mission statement are “student-centered” (Rinaudo et al., 2020). Louisiana State University is a public, research university that is dedicated to providing students with a world-class education. The university has a student-centered focus, which means that they place the needs and interests of their students above all else. This includes ensuring that students have access to excellent faculty, facilities, and resources. LSU also strives to provide an enriching campus experience that helps students grow both academically and personally.
The goals, objectives, and policies of these institutions are likely to be similar and different at the same time. Louisiana State University (LSU) and River Parish Community College (RPCC) are both public institutions in the state of Louisiana. However, they have different goals, objectives, and policies. RPCC is a community college that focuses on preparing students for university transfer or for entering the workforce. LSU is a research university that offers doctoral degrees in addition to undergraduate and graduate degrees. RPCC is a smaller school with about 5,000 students, while LSU has over 30,000 students. RPCC has a more open admissions policy than LSU does. And finally, RPCC’s tuition rates are much lower than LSU’s tuition rates.
The accreditation offered by commission on collegiate nursing education serves many purposes. CCNE accreditation is baccalaureate and graduate nursing education programs. The standards for accreditation are designed to promote excellence in nursing education (Gardenier et al., 2019). They are based on a set of values that guide the program’s operation, including quality of care, integrity, social justice, and respect for human dignity. CCNE-accredited programs must demonstrate compliance with all standards through a peer review process (Wilkerson et al., 2017). The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) is an autonomous agency nationally recognized by the US Department of Education (DOE) as a specialized professional accrediting body for nursing programs at the collegiate level.

First, choose one Community College and one University and compare and contrast their mission statements. Place the text of the mission statements in your response (appropriately cited of course) and describe the schools. Do any key words stand out to you in one statement and not the other?
How do you think the goals, objectives, and policies of these institutions are likely to be similar? Different?
Then, choose one of the Accreditation Standards posted. Skim them and perhaps explore the website of the organizations providing the standards. Reflect upon what you have learned about accreditation and post a thoughtful, reflective paragraph about accreditation.
