NURS 6675  Week 3 Assignment 2: Study Plan

The practice test results showed that I scored fairly, meaning I need to improve in various areas to be above average. The identified strengths are in the domains of Advanced Practice Skills, Scientific Knowledge, and Ethical and Legal Principles. However, I need to improve my knowledge of Psychotherapy and Related Theories and Diagnosis and Treatment. I need to study more psychotherapy principles and developmental, change, and family theories (Berg et al., 2021). Under the Diagnosis and Treatment domain, I need to practice making differential diagnoses, developing diagnostic impressions, selecting and interpreting diagnostic tests, and selecting treatments.

I have developed SMART goals to guide me in this quarter, and they include:

  1. By the end of the practicum, I will have improved my skills in formulating DSM-5 diagnoses based on clinical intake and assessment information.
  • I will attain this by focusing on common mental disorders across the lifespan, like Depression, Anxiety, and ADHD.
  1. By the end of the practicum, I will have developed an appropriate medication treatment plan based on clinical intake and assessment information.
  • I will attain this by using the DSM-5, the Prescriber’s Guide, and Walden University Resources when assessing patients across the lifespan.
  1. By the end of the practicum, I will have conducted and completed a comprehensive psychiatric assessment of patient
  • I will achieve this by assessing 80 patients across the lifespan (40 adults and 40 pediatric patients) and determining the most appropriate interview format.

The resources I will use to accomplish the goals and tasks include PMHNP Board Review questions, the PMHNP Exam Secrets Study Guide, educational seminars and webinars, and study groups. Resources like the board review questions and exam study guide have a format similar to the certification exam, making them valuable for my revision and understanding of the format (Coppa & Winchester, 2020). In addition, I will invite my colleagues to form a study group where we will have at least two weekly meetings to help each other improve on our weaknesses (Smith et al., 2018).
