Onboarding is an important process in health organizations. Onboarding ensures that the newly hired employees fit into the organizational processes and systems. The organization I work with has both formal and informal onboarding processes. The formal onboarding processes comprise of set policies and procedures that enable new employees to adjust to their new roles. Informal onboarding entails the new employees learning on their own about their new roles without the use of established processes (Davila & Pina-Ramirez, 2018). One of the formal onboarding processes utilized in the organization is training. Newly hired employees undergo a two-day training to enhance their understanding of their expected roles, organizational policies and procedures. There is also the use of formal discussions on a regular basis with the management. The discussions aim at addressing the concerns of the newly hired employees. The newly hired employees also receive mentoring and coaching from selected individuals in their respective areas of work. Informal onboarding also exists in the organization. Newly hired employees use their knowledge, skills and experience to learn about the ways in which various aspects of patient care can be delivered.

One of the factors that contribute to the effectiveness of the onboarding process is supportive organizational culture. The existence of organizational culture characterized by teamwork, openness, and transparency increases the assimilation rate of newly hired employees. The other factor is effective leadership. The use of leadership styles such as servant and transformational leadership eases the assimilation of new employees due to the increased focus on addressing the individual needs in an organization. One of the changes that I would recommend to the current onboarding processes utilized in the organization is standardizing the processes utilized in assimilating new employees. Standardization will enhance the strategy levels of the onboarding methods used in the organization. The other recommendation entails making onboarding process enjoyable (Blokdyk, 2020). It can be achieved by utilizing engaging interventions such as competitions and entertainment contests.
