Personal Philosophy Statement
My philosophy of nursing practice as a family nurse practitioner is rooted in the delivery of holistic, patient-centered care. I am committed to delivering care that aligns with patient’s prioritized and potential needs. I am competent in assessing patients to identify their physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs. I believe that patient care should not only address the physical symptoms of a disease. It should also extend to addressing other factors such as emotional and spiritual needs that affect patient experiences with a disease (Hawthorne & Gordon, 2020). As a result, I value the provision of holistic nursing care to patients and their families as a way of empowering them to take responsibility for addressing their health needs.
I am an advocate of patient-centeredness in nursing practice. I incorporate practices such as the shared and active participation of patients and their families in assessing and managing their health problems. I believe that nurses can provide patient-centered and holistic care if they incorporate evidence-based practice into their roles (Choi et al., 2021). Evidence-based practice entails the use of best practices in the care process while incorporating patient values and professional expertise in the process. Evidence-based practice promotes outcomes such as safety, quality, and efficiency.
I am an advocate of health promotion and disease prevention. I recognize the role of interventions such as health education, screening, timely diagnosis and treatment, and rehabilitation in promoting optimum outcomes for diverse populations. I always ensure that I empower my patients and family with different health promotion and disease prevention strategies for a healthy society. In my role, I embrace interdisciplinary collaboration, open communication respect for diversity, and continuous learning for excellent service delivery to those in need (Berduzco-Torres et al., 2020; Goltz et al., 2021). Through the above focus, I constantly deliver care that meets and exceeds patient expectations and outcomes in my practice.
Short and Long-Term Goals
I have set my short and long-term goals to achieve the desired personal and professional development. My short-term goals include increasing my professional competencies by engaging in continuous educational activities such as attending training, workshops, and seminars on areas that affect my practice. My other short-term goal is to develop the clinical competencies needed to provide patient-centered care to my patients through training, mentorship, and advancing my education. My last short-term goal is to develop competencies in interdisciplinary collaboration. My long-term goals include achieving a doctorate in nursing in the next ten years, holding a top leadership position in my future organization, and publishing at least 50 journals on issues related to improving nursing practice, leadership, and education.

I believe that I am an expert in most of the clinical practice skills. This includes assessment, patient education, and diagnosis, planning, monitoring, and evaluating treatment plans. I am proficient in care coordination and leading interprofessional teams. I am excellent in interdisciplinary collaboration, engaging in activities that contribute to continuous professional growth and development, and mentoring other nurses. I possess satisfactory leadership skills. I have exceptional communication, problem-solving, adaptability, and innovation skills.
