Freudian and Jungian Theories of the Unconscious Mind. 1st Post Due by Day 3. Prior to beginning work on this discussion be sure to read Chapters 2 and 3in your text, read the Iurato (2015) “A brief comparison of the unconscious as seen by Jung and Levi-Strauss” article, and review the Sigmund Freud: The Unconscious mind video and The Washington Society for Jungian Psychology website. In addition to the required resources, research a minimum of one scholarly source in the Ashford University Library on this topic. The unconscious mind is a core concept in most psychoanalytical and psychodynamic theories, but Freud and Jung’s theories are the most developed and prominent. Your text and the required readings and media have presented the two theories. In your initial post of a minimum of 350 words, present an overview of both Freud’s theory and Jung’s theory of the role of the unconscious mind as it pertains to personality and behavior. Then compare and contrast the basic assumptions of the two theories and note the similarities and the differences as they relate to human behavior.

Based on your reading and research explain which interpretation of the unconscious mind you support. Guided Response: Respond to at least two of your peers who did not support the theory you selected, if possible. Explain whether or not your peer’s comparison of the two theories appropriately noted similarities and differences as they relate to human behavior. Suggest other elements your peer might wish to consider in this comparison. Ask questions to further the conversation about your peer’s analysis and support of the chosen theory. Your questions to your peers must be substantive and focused on the theories of the unconscious mind as they relate to personality development.

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
